McLaren Automotive—which has been teasing the debut of the new Sport Series—released information detailing a new model to join the P1 GTR at the Geneva Motor Show: the 675LT. The “LT” stands for “Longtail” as a tribute to the F1 GTR Longtail (shown below) which ran at Le Mans in 1997.

McLaren is slotting this new model into the “Super Series,” which is to include the 650S as well. Soon we will know what sets the Super Series apart from the Sports Series. According to McLaren, the 675LT will be a slightly more track-oriented alternative to the 650S. Understandably, the Longtail will only be available as a coupe.

What does a car need to be more track oriented? That’s right… More power! The 675LT will come with a “heavily revised” 3.8 litre twin turbo V8 with all new lightweight parts and turbos. The 675LT is starting to sound like the 650S’s evil twin, as its engine produces 25 more horsepower, for a grand total of 666 bhp. From a standing start in first gear, McLaren claims the driver will experience a “controlled” 443 lb ft of torque, while overall the engine will be able to produce 516 lb ft. Listen to this beauty, combined with a lightweight titanium crossover exhaust system, below:
The price of this modernized retro model—along with performance figures that McLaren claim are “startling”—will be revealed to the world at the Geneva Motor Show. McLaren have been releasing new models and series consistently in the recent past, and hopefully they can please with the debut of the 675LT in Geneva. The F1 GTR deserves a proper tribute, and we hope this car can deliver.
