The way a petrolholic buys a used car

After getting tired of his Lexus, my cousin Joe decided he would buy his “within reach” dream car, an Audi A6. He searched through offers and ads for used A6s and eventually found one that was significantly a better offer than the rest. The A6 at this Las Vegas dealership was cheaper than most of the other options he found, and this one even had some sport upgrades; because of this, Joe knew that this was the car for him. The only problem was getting to the dealership, which was only about 1750 miles away.

For those readers that didn’t pass their elementary school geography quiz, that’s the distance between Las Vegas and Chicago, where Joe is from. Most people looking online for a car would see the location and glance over that result; however, this was the perfect car for Joe, so he couldn’t just do that. Instead, he purchased a one-way ticket to Las Vegas so he could buy the Audi and drive it back 1750 miles.

Realistically, it’s hard to think of a better way to break in your dream car than a cross-country road trip. Even if this wasn’t a good enough idea already, my cousin decided to make his way into the casino the night he got into Las Vegas, winning enough money to buy himself a set of new tires. The only (non-)issue was that, due to hazardous weather, Joe had to hang out in the beautiful town of Avon, Colorado for a night. After the trip was over, he ended up with a dream car that is as great as he imagined, some stunning photos, and the experience of a fantastic trip with some astonishing views along the way.

What is the craziest thing you’ve done to buy a car?
